Fort Jackson sits in northeast Columbia, South Carolina; Gate 2 on Forest Drive (I-77) is the 24/7 graduation gate. The closest hotels are the Garners Ferry corridor off I-77 Exit 9, a short drive south to Gate 2. When does Family Day start at Fort Jackson?

Does my Soldier get a blue cord at Fort Jackson graduation?
The blue cord (Infantry shoulder cord) is only awarded to Soldiers who complete Infantry OSUT. That ceremony is at Fort Benning, not Fort Jackson. Jackson trains every MOS for BCT, and the vast majority of Jackson graduates do not receive a blue cord. If your Soldier is Infantry-bound, they will receive the cord at Fort Benning after AIT, not at Jackson. Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning is 18 weeks total. The intermediate family event is the Turning Green Ceremony at Week 9-10, marking completion of the BCT portion. Then at Week 18 the Turning Blue ceremony (blue cord, Infantry status) is held the day before the Graduation Ceremony. No. The Order of the Spur (silver spurs) and Stetson presentation are SEPARATE from Armor OSUT graduation. They are earned at the Soldier's first duty station through a unit-conducted Spur Ride, typically a 1-to-4-day evaluation, often months after arriving at the first unit. Where is Armor OSUT graduation at Fort Benning held?
Armor OSUT graduation (19K Armor Crewman and 19D Cavalry Scout) is conducted by the 194th Armored Brigade at Brave Rifles Field, 10208 7th Cavalry Road, Fort Benning, GA 31905. Where is Fort Sill graduation held: Polo Field or Cache Creek Chapel?

There is no single published AIT graduation schedule at Fort Sill. Can a family member with a military ID escort the rest of us onto Fort Sill?
No. Fort Sill policy has no escort provision: a relative with a military, retiree, or dependent ID cannot sign the rest of the party onto post. What is "The Forge" at Fort Leonard Wood? Is that the graduation ceremony?
No. The Forge is a 96-hour continuous field training exercise (the FLW culmination event, equivalent to other posts' culminating FTX). Trainees do not return to barracks during The Forge, and families do NOT attend the field exercise itself. What families attend is the Forge Ceremony: the recognition formation that runs after the FTX concludes on Wednesday morning. It marks the moment trainees are recognized as Soldiers. Which airport should I fly into for Fort Leonard Wood graduation?
Springfield-Branson National (SGF) is the closest commercial airport, about 80 minutes to Fort Leonard Wood, and the best option for most families. St. Louis Lambert International (STL) is about 130 minutes but has the most flight options; STL Shuttle Service (314-450-6453) runs a daily shuttle from the airport to Fort Leonard Wood if you do not want to rent a car. Army BCT graduation week is the final stretch of Basic Combat Training when family members are invited on post to observe ceremonies and spend time with their Soldier. The arc is typically: Family Day (the day before graduation, when family can visit and the Soldier may be released for a few hours) followed by Graduation Day (the formal ceremony and release). The exact schedule varies by installation. Some bases hold a separate Turning Blue or coin ceremony; others fold everything into a single parade.
When does my Soldier ship to AIT after BCT graduation?
Most BCT graduates ship to Advanced Individual Training (AIT) within 24-72 hours of graduation. The exact timing depends on whether AIT is at the same post or requires a flight: at Fort Sill (Field Artillery + Air Defense Artillery), most grads transition into on-post AIT the same week; at Fort Jackson, most ship out to another post for AIT (Adjutant General, Quartermaster, Signal, etc.). Keep it simple. Your Soldier has been on a tight schedule and what they want most is a real meal, rest, and time with you, not a packed itinerary. The most common plan is a sit-down lunch at a restaurant they have been missing, a stop for anything they need (phone, civilian comforts, snacks), and quiet time to talk. Many families stay close to post because the pass window is short and the Soldier usually has to be back by a set recall time. Confirm your Soldier's exact pass hours and whether they are allowed off-post before you book anything. Pass rules vary by post and by where the Soldier is in training.
Can I take my Soldier off post during the Family Day pass?
