Can I bring children to Army BCT graduation?

Yes. Children are welcome at Army graduation ceremonies. There are no age restrictions for attending Family Day or the Graduation Parade. Children under 18 typically do not need their own ID to enter the post if they are with a credentialed adult. Be prepared for outdoor ceremonies with metal bleachers, significant walking, and summer heat (or winter cold, depending on the season). Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and anything else that makes a long outdoor event manageable for kids.

Is there a dress code for Army graduation?

There is no formal dress code for family members attending Army BCT ceremonies, but business casual is the widely accepted standard. Avoid shorts, flip-flops, or anything you'd wear to the beach. Graduation parades are formal military events and dressing respectfully is expected. Comfortable closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended: you will walk a lot, parade fields are grass or gravel, and bleachers may require climbing. Summer graduations mean breathable layers; winter graduations can be cold and windy on an open field.

Can I send mail to my Soldier before graduation?

Yes. You can send letters, cards, and care packages to your Soldier throughout BCT. The mailing address is on the pinning or graduation ceremony letter the unit sends to families, or it may be in an initial phone call from your Soldier. Use the exact format provided (including company, battalion, and regiment) so the mail reaches them. Note that Soldiers may not have reliable access to their mail toward the end of training as schedules intensify, but it will be waiting for them.

When do Soldiers get their cell phones back?

Soldiers typically have their personal cell phones confiscated at the start of BCT and returned during Family Day or the night before, depending on the installation's policy. Once phones are returned, Soldiers can call, text, and use social media during authorized liberty time. Keep your own phone charged and ringer on around Family Day so you can coordinate meeting locations on post.

How do I find out which Army post my Soldier shipped to?

The easiest way is to look at your Soldier's ship-day orders. The return address on any mail from the post will say "Fort <name>": that is the post they are at. If you have not received mail, check the family contact letter from the unit or call the Army's Family Assistance line.

When will I hear from my Soldier after Family Day?

Soldiers typically have authorized phone time during the Family Day pass and again after graduation. Once phones are returned (often the night before Family Day or during Family Day morning), Soldiers can call, text, and use social media during liberty windows. Between Family Day pass end and graduation morning, Soldiers are back under Drill Sergeant supervision and may not have phone access. After graduation, expect a longer call window. Soldiers are released from cadre control and have flexible communication until ship-out to AIT. The first sustained phone access is typically the afternoon of graduation through AIT in-processing.
