From Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport (LAW) to a parking space at Cache Creek Chapel Complex parking (if your unit assigns this venue), in the order you’ll do it. Built for the family flying in for Family Day and graduation.
At a glance
- Rental or rideshare: Rideshare is allowed on post. Drivers and adult passengers may need a visitor pass; reserve in advance and allow extra time at the gate. Compare rental cars (opens in new tab)
- Gate: Key Gate West (off I-44), open 24 hours. Bentley Gate (NW Sheridan Rd / US-277) also works but keeps limited hours, so Key Gate West (off I-44) is the simpler choice. A government photo ID gets every adult in; REAL ID or passport is fastest.
- Parking: Be parked by 08:30. The graduation lot fills by 08:30.

Key Gate West (off I-44)
Most common24/7 · ~12 min from the airport · ~20 min grad-morning wait
Recommended gate for families attending graduation. A dedicated graduation visitor lane operates 0700-1000 on graduation morning -- every adult (18+) in the vehicle must present valid ID (REAL ID-compliant license, US passport, or two forms of ID if non-REAL ID; REAL ID is required even if you already hold an approved visitor pass). Outside 0700-1000, every adult must pre-obtain a pass at the VCC or online at pass.aie.army.mil (request online passes at least 24 hours before you arrive). Per-person vetting (not just the driver) is now enforced; plan to arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than you normally would. Closed briefly for construction in early 2026; reopened March 2026.
Bentley Gate (NW Sheridan Rd / US-277)
Alternate0900-1900 daily · ~12 min from the airport · ~15 min grad-morning wait
Closest gate to LAW airport (~12 min via US-277), open daily 0900-1900. Visitor Control Center (VCC) is at Bldg 6701, 6701 NW Sheridan Rd, Lawton OK 73503, just south of Bentley Gate on Sheridan Road. VCC hours: daily 0600-1700 (6 a.m.-5 p.m.); primary phone (580) 442-9602, questions (580) 442-9607 or (580) 442-9616. Obtain your pass here before entering, or pre-register online at pass.aie.army.mil at least 24 hours before you arrive. Because this gate does not open until 0900, families arriving early for graduation morning should use Key Gate West (24/7) instead.
Gate hours come from each garrison's official access-control page. Confirm before you drive, hours can change without notice.
At the gate
- Every adult in the vehicle hands a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, US passport, or two alternate forms of ID to the guard. Kids under 18 usually don’t need ID; check with the guard if asked.
- Bag and trunk check. The guard may ask to look in the trunk. Keep it tidy and easy to open. No firearms on post even with a CCW permit; check ahead if you’re traveling with one.
- Vehicle waved through. For graduation morning, check with your unit whether a pre-obtained visitor pass is required. The rental agreement is your vehicle credential. Follow signs to the ceremony venue.
Parking at Cache Creek Chapel Complex parking (if your unit assigns this venue)
Lot fills by 08:30. Aim for a 08:30 arrival. The line of cars stacking into the gate makes the last 30 minutes painful.
Named on most recent 2026 graduation schedules and the aggregated 434th FA Brigade schedule, but confirm this is your unit's venue before you plan around it. Described as having ample parking with restrooms. Carpool still advisable. Arrive by 0830; the ceremony typically begins mid-morning, but confirm the exact time in your Soldier's unit letter. In-lane vetting at Key Gate West runs 0700-1000 on graduation morning. Address: 6043 Rothwell St, Fort Sill / Lawton OK.

The 2021 BCT reopening policy names Polo Field as the primary outdoor venue, and units still use it, so do not assume it is a rare exception. Confirm with your unit's graduation letter or the 434th Field Artillery Brigade page which venue applies to your Soldier's cycle. Parking is limited here, so carpool is strongly recommended. Arrive by 0830; the ceremony typically begins mid-morning, but confirm the exact time in your Soldier's unit letter. Families may stay on the Polo Field with their Soldier until noon.

A few rules that catch families out
- Rideshare is allowed on post here. Drivers and adult passengers may need a visitor pass, and wait times in the area can be longer than in larger cities. Reserve your ride in advance and allow extra gate time.
- No cell phones in your hand while driving on post. MP enforcement is real. Use a phone mount or your passenger.
- Even with a state-issued CCW.
- Real ID matters for getting home. Since the May 2025 deadline it’s required to board a domestic flight and to enter most federal facilities. Travel with a REAL ID-compliant license or a passport. Non-compliant licenses need a supplemental document at this base’s gate.

Common questions
- What documents do I need to bring to Army graduation?
- All visitors 18 and older need a valid government-issued photo ID to enter a military installation. A standard driver's license is accepted everywhere; a Real ID (gold-star license) or passport speeds up processing at most posts. REAL ID enforcement varies by installation: Fort Benning does not currently enforce REAL ID requirements; Fort Jackson waives them for Family Day and Graduation visitors; Fort Sill and Fort Leonard Wood require REAL ID and do not accept digital IDs. Minors generally do not need ID if accompanied by an adult. Some posts also require vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Always check your specific installation's gate policy before you travel.
- When should I book my flight home after Army graduation?
- Plan outbound flights for at least 4-6 hours after the ceremony ends, never the same morning. Graduation ceremonies typically run 1-2 hours starting between 9:00-10:30 AM, followed by a brief released-time window where families take photos and say goodbye. If your Soldier is shipping to AIT the same day, that goodbye window is short (1-2 hours). If your Soldier is staying overnight, you may have the afternoon. Gate exit, drive to airport, rental return, and TSA can each take 30-60 minutes during graduation week peak traffic. A late-afternoon flight (3:00 PM or later) is the realistic floor; an evening flight is safer.
- Which gate should families use for Fort Sill graduation?
- Key Gate West (off I-44) is the primary graduation-morning entry gate at Fort Sill. It runs a dedicated visitor lane 7:00-10:00 AM on graduation days and is open 24/7. The Bentley Gate on NW Sheridan Road is closest to the Visitor Control Center (Bldg 6701, 6701 NW Sheridan Rd, Lawton OK 73503, (580) 442-9602, open daily 0600-1700) if you need to process a visitor pass first, but Bentley Gate itself is only open daily 0900-1900, so use Key Gate West instead if you are arriving before 0900. You can also pre-register online at pass.aie.army.mil at least 24 hours before you travel. Key Gate East is open Mon-Fri 0500-1300 (closed weekends). Avoid Gate 6 at 52nd Street; the garrison currently lists it as closed with no reopening date.
- Which airport should I fly into for Fort Sill graduation?
- Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport (LAW) is the closest option, about 12 minutes from the Bentley Gate. American Eagle runs a daily direct flight from Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW), and Enterprise, Budget, and Avis all have on-site rental counters at the Lawton airport. Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City is the larger backup, about 90 minutes north; a rental car is required from there. Flying directly into Dallas-Fort Worth is the last-resort option, about 175 miles / 3 hours from Fort Sill. Uber and Lyft both operate in Lawton city-side. On-post rideshare is permitted but requires the driver to hold a DoD ID or VWC pass, so most families use rideshare for the airport-to-hotel leg and rent a car for post access.
- Can I use Uber or Lyft at Fort Sill for graduation?
- Rideshare is permitted at Fort Sill but limited. The driver must already hold a DoD ID or a Visitor Control Center (VCC) pass, and all passengers 18 and older need a visitor pass. If your Uber or Lyft driver does not have base access, they cannot drive onto post. The practical path: get your visitor pass in advance at pass.aie.army.mil (request it at least 24 hours before you travel), then confirm your driver has DoD access or their own VCC pass before booking a pickup on-post. For most families, renting a car or getting dropped at the VCC (Bldg 6701, 6701 NW Sheridan Rd, open daily 0600-1700) and walking in is simpler. Uber and Lyft both operate in Lawton city-side, so rideshare from your hotel to the VCC or the off-post parking areas is straightforward.
- Can a family member with a military ID escort the rest of us onto Fort Sill?
- No. Fort Sill policy has no escort provision: a relative with a military, retiree, or dependent ID cannot sign the rest of the party onto post. Every visitor without a DoD-issued ID needs their own visitor pass and background check, including spouses, parents, and grandparents, and including holders of Gold Star or VA-issued cards, which are not acceptable entry credentials on their own. The practical path: pre-register everyone at pass.aie.army.mil (the garrison asks for at least 24 hours' notice, and applications are accepted up to 30 days ahead), or process at the Visitor Welcome Center (open daily 0600-1700, about 5-7 minutes per person). If you are staying several days, ask for a pass covering the length of your stay so you do not repeat the process each morning.
