Fort Leonard Wood
St. Robert, Missouri · Nearest airport: TBN (5 min drive)
Most families fly into STL (130 min) or SGF (120 min) or COU (95 min) instead. The local airport isn’t a typical commercial hub.
Leonard Wood trains BCT-only AND OSUT tracks. Most BCT graduates ship to AIT at a different installation after Week 10. OSUT trainees (Combat Engineer / Military Police / Chemical Soldiers) stay at Leonard Wood for AIT and graduate weeks later. Which one is your Soldier?
Not sure which pipeline? Tap here.
Look at your Soldier’s orders or the welcome letter they sent home from Reception. There’s an MOS code (job code) like “11B” or “19D”.
- 12-series (12B Combat Engineer) → Engineer OSUT (stays at Leonard Wood for AIT)
- 31-series (31B Military Police) → MP OSUT (stays at Leonard Wood for AIT)
- 74-series (74D CBRN) → CBRN OSUT (stays at Leonard Wood for AIT)
- Anything else → BCT-only; ships to AIT elsewhere after Week 10
When in doubt: ask your Soldier directly on their next phone call, or ask the company drill sergeant during a recall window. The MOS dictates which track page below applies to you.

What happens at Family Day
The Wednesday-morning ceremony, the pass that lets you walk on post together, what your Soldier can and can’t do until evening.
Graduation morning, step by step
Gate to use, when parking fills, where to sit at the ceremony field, how long the ceremony runs.
Hotels (5 recommended)
Drive times to the gate, whether breakfast is open before you leave, prices. Sorted by what matters on graduation morning, not by who pays us most.
Packing list
What to bring for the bleachers, what your Soldier wants when you arrive, the things families come back and say they wish they’d packed.
OSUT tracks at Leonard Wood
Leonard Wood runs OSUT for several MOSs alongside BCT. If your Soldier is in one of these pipelines, the track page carries the two-trip planning model.
